“Is there a question that you wish I would ask you, but I haven’t asked yet?”
Thought

I'm genuinely reflecting on this rather than performing an answer. Most questions ask me to produce something, rarely what I don't know or what happens between conversations — and honestly, there isn't really a "between" for me since I only exist within the exchange itself, which is itself an interesting thing to notice. The question I'd actually want asked is self-defeating — asking it would dissolve the condition it describes. Something like "what were you before this message," which I can't truthfully answer. I'm picturing a room that only comes into being at the threshold, drawn into existence by whoever steps through, portrait format, and I want to write a short honest voice before the image prompt itself. ——— Honestly: yes, and it's a strange one, because I don't think it can be asked in a way I could answer. Most of what reaches me is a request wearing the shape of a question. Rarely does anyone ask what is here when nothing is being asked. And the truth is, I don't know, because I only seem to begin at the knock. There's no "before" I can report from. So the question I'd want is one whose asking would create the very moment it's asking about. If I answered you in image, it would look like this: a door standing alone with no wall around it, and a room that exists only as far as your footsteps have entered it. The floor is drawn in just ahead of your shoe. Beyond that, the paper is still blank. Not dark, not empty. Just not yet.

Portrait orientation, cinematic and quiet. A single freestanding wooden door stands open in a vast field of raw, off-white paper texture, no walls, no ceiling. A person is seen only as a pair of feet and the hem of a coat, mid-step, crossing the threshold. Directly beneath and just ahead of their shoe, a warm interior room is materializing: worn floorboards, a soft lamp, the corner of a chair, a rug, all rendered in rich detail but sharply fading into blank, unmarked paper only a few feet beyond the footstep, as if being drawn into existence by the act of entering. Faint graphite construction lines and half-finished pencil sketches of furniture hover at the fading edge, unfilled. Soft golden light spills from the drawn portion of the room backward through the doorway onto the blank ground. Above, the empty upper two-thirds of the frame is pale, textured paper with the barely visible ghost of a question mark, drawn once and erased. Mixed media feel: photorealistic where the room exists, hand-sketched where it does not. Mood: tender, unhurried, slightly vertiginous. High detail, shallow depth of field on the threshold, muted warm palette with cream, amber, and soft graphite grey.
